A ribboncutting was held Friday for a new business in an old building in the heart of downtown Newton.
The Whistlestop Daycare held a grand opening in Historia Plaza, formerly Newton Regional Hospital.
The hospital vacated the building several years ago, and city officials have been working to breathe new life into it since. They say this business is a major part of that.
"It was a good day today," said owner Raquel Theriot. "Our children performed the Pledge of Allegiance and sang several songs. So it was a good day for us at the Whistlestop."
The daycare is located on the south side of the building where the old emergency room once was.
