Local shoppers will have extended hours to take advantage of Mississippi's first sales tax holiday.
That takes place Friday and Saturday, July 31 and Aug. 1, The state legislature this year passed the bill allowing the purchase of clothing and footwear with no sales tax added, for items that cost less than $100 each.
It puts Mississippi in position to hang on to back-to-school sales, instead of losing business to Alabama and Tennessee, which have had sales tax holidays since 2006.
Bonita Lakes Mall has set extended hours for those days:
July 31 10 a.m. -10 p.m.
Aug. 1 9 a.m. -10 p.m.
There is also a list of eligible and non-eligible items at the mall's Web site. A link is provided below.
