MPD Picks Up Escapee At Meridian Apartment

After a full day of searching for a missing inmate from a Poplarville jail, The Meridian Police Department located Raphael Taylor at Saint Francis Apartments.

State and local officials had received tips that Taylor had been spotted in the Meridian area earlier Thursday.

Later in the day, a person reported seeing the escapee around the Wal-Mart on Highway 19 south. The caller turned in a car description, tag number and direction of travel.

With the given information, authorities were able to apprehend the escapee without incident around 8:15 p.m. He was taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Facility. From there, he will be transported back to the Poplarville facility by representatives of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Taylor escaped from the Pearl River County Jail where he was serving a five year sentence from Lauderdale County on car burglary charges.

How are all these inmates escaping jail? I don't care how much a "trustee" can be trusted, they are ALL STILL CONVICTS. And if this man was not a trustee on a work detail, the how in the world did he escape?
