A special election has been set to fill a vacant House District 65 seat in Alabama.
The seat was vacated when former state representative Marc Keahey was elected to the state Senate, after the death of Sen. Pat Lindsey.
The special election is required to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the House term.
Qualifying deadlines for the two parties is July 31. Party primaries will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15. Runoffs, if necessary, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
If no runoffs are necessary, the general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3. If a runoff does occur, the general election will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15.
The governor’s office has coordinated the election dates with both political parties, as well as the probate judges for all counties in House District 65.
