It was a celebration of 50 years of service for a local veterans' association member.
The Meridian Branch of the Fleet Reserve Association honored Philip Lee Sunday afternoon for his lifetime commitment of helping to fight for veteran's rights.
Lee joined in the association in 1959 and says it's a blessing to still be alive and well and active in the chapter. Lee served in the navy for 22 years and says the association needs a stronger voice in congress for servicemen and women of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
"It means that I've been lucky to survive all these years but I'm proud to be a member of the fleet reserve association. If all the members every joined stayed with it, we would have a stronger voice in the congress," Fleet Reserve Association lifetime member Philip Lee said.
During his tenure, Lee was a former president of this branch. Chapter members say there's 300 local members and more than 80,000 Fleet Reserve members worldwide.
