Grand Jury Meets

The Lauderdale County grand jury is meeting this week to try to deal with a number of cases.

District attorney Bilbo Mitchell said the 18-member group will take a look at close to 300 cases.

Those cases range from property and drug crimes to assaults and robbery. They also include more than 65 bad check cases.

"The ones they indict will be formal charges that I can start taking people to court on," said Mitchell. "The cases, once indicted, will be set in the next term of court."

Mitchell said it will likely take several more terms of court to finish all of the cases indicted this week.

Out of those 300 cases just how many will actually go to trial? It is a proven fact that Bilbo Mitchell will only prosecute cut and dried cases. I wonder how many of the 300 will be released or not indicted will Bilbo set free to continue to wreck havoc on the citizens of Meridian. My guess 299.
