Mississippi's 2-day sales tax holiday started Friday. It means at least a seven percent savings on clothing and footwear. That would be on top of specials many stores already have.
"We are going to see a lot of secondary market shoppers come in," said Renee Williams, general manager of Bonita Lakes Mall. "We're going to see a lot of shoppers coming in from Alabama to take advantage of this holiday. So we're expecting, definitely, huge crowds."
The mall will operate on extended hours to give you more time to shop and economize.
The Bonita Lakes Mall is doing something a little more than some other places may be doing this weekend.
"A lot of the stores that don't have qualifying purchases for sales tax free have gone ahead and discounted items," said Williams. "We have some stores that are actually offering tax free Friday and Saturday on your purchases, and of course, they're paying the sales tax to the state."
Even some restaurants in the food court are dropping the sales tax for this 2-day period.
"It's definitely beneficial to the community because it's back to school, and that's the second busiest season for our center. That's also a time when parents spend a majority of money trying to get their children ready for back to school," Williams said.
