National Night out has been going on for 20 years, but Lauderdale County actively participated for the first time Tuesday.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department organized the event on the grounds of West Lauderdale High School.
National Night Out is viewed as a way to fight crime by not being a victim.
Vendors and various agencies were on hand to show residents how they can be proactive in taking back their neighborhoods, and practicing safety.
Participants also enjoyed games, food, and music. Coordinators of the event say turnout was good for the first try and it was a success.
