The trial date for former Jones County Deputy Chancery Clerk Natalie Brooke Ward has been set for Aug. 19.
Ward was indicted in December on charges of embezzling nearly $220,000 from the chancery clerk's office between November 2004 and January 2008. She resigned Feb. 13.
The indictment capped a nearly year-long investigation into missing funds from the office. Court records show Ward is accused of embezzling from a land redemption account.
In December, State Auditor Stacy Pickering issued a demand to Ward for repayment of the missing funds, plus over $57,000 in interest and about $32,000 in investigative costs.
A Jones County grand jury indicted Ward on charges of embezzlement by a public employee and alteration of record.
