Four Suspects Charged in Death of Homeless Man

The Meridian Police Department has arrested four people in the death of 52-year-old David A. Caraway in late June. He was found in an alley behind Hope Village Thrift Store.

The suspects arrested for armed robbery and manslaughter are 17-year-old Antshawn Davis of 2806 7th Street; D’Anthony Davis, 19, of 2801 7th Street; and Marcus Anderson, 20, of 2806 7th Street. A fourth suspects, 19-year-old Antonio Chapman, turned himself in late Thursday afternoon.

A bond of $100,000 has been sent for each of the charges, totaling $200,000 for each suspect.

Officials say a preliminary autopsy report showed Caraway's death was due to blunt force trauma to internal organs. Detectives say they believe the damage was caused by a physical assault. Police plan to present the case to the November grand jury.

Well all i got 2 say is 1 of the men that was involve had and education and just graduated so get it right. Im not saying he wasn't in the wrong but all of them is still human beings, so who is yall 2 judge them. Like the saying ` Only God can judge me`. They going to get their punishment like anyone else would. I mean get real and if yall was doing something better with yall life, yall wouldn't be on here judging them about what they did. So therefore yall are sinning yourselves. So stop and think, cause what if one of these 4 men was your family like one of them is mine. You would be sitting here judging them. Now would you?????????????????

These four drains on society should be brought into an alley and beat to death too. Maybe if they were busy WORKING or GETTING AN EDUCATION they wouldn't have time to murder an innocent man! They're only being charged with armed robbery and manslaughter? Armed robbery of a homeless man? Really?

I am a black man who just last year was jumped in that same area.I personaly do not think it was a hate crime, just a stupid one. I agree these kids need to get all of the time coming to them, but we should not make this a race issue.

This is a crime od 4 srrong young MEN on a weak drunken old man! Thats the bottom line! We can sit here an play the blame game til we are all sick of it! It goes back to playground rule the weak rule! Its up to us to set the rules and protect the weak. Don't come at me with your fists drawn ready to argue. I have read each and every one of these posts. we should be ashamed. This is what we claim represents Meridian? It dpesn't matter if these boys are black green orange or blue they are still our children and we need to see if they commited this horrible crime. If they did they should be punished accordinly! I doun't think any of the Mother of Meridian had a problem punishing our children we just all want make sure our child is the guilty one. I'm not hear to pass judgement on these 4. Thats not my job. But I will say I hope this man who died in our city Rest's In God's Hand's because no one in Meridian would wish him any less from us! Thank for letting me speake. May God Bless You All!

Fatboy, I do agree the DA is soft. To the others on here, be careful what you wish for when blasting Chief Dubose. If anyone has half a brain, they can conjure up some guesses on who the next chief could be. You think Meridian has a corrupt, good ole boy system now? You just wait. If Chief Dubose is replaced by some of the ones waiting in line, I think I might have to move. This city hasn't seen corruption like the kind we could see in the near future.

For those who have commented, which ones of you investigated the crime scene, interrogated the four boys, etc.? I believe this was a HEINOUS, SENSELESS crime, and I hope they get the max sentence. However, some of you folks need to stop and think about the system these days and realize what will stick and what won't. First of all, it is not the Police Chief that ultimately decides on charges. It is the DA. He goes by what the facts of the case are and decides what he thinks will ultimately win the conviction. There are facts of the case that we, the public, obviously don't know that causes the DA to believe that a murder charge won't stick. He apparently believes that a manslaughter conviction will. Instead of letting these guys go free, which is a great possiblity, he is instead ensuring a conviction with prison time. I do believe that if it had been a black man killed, there would be a hate crime charge, but I believe that is a federal charge, not local.

Death is the only punishment that will deter these thugs from doing this again. Chief Dubose needs to reconsider his remarks, and the charges need to be upgraded to murder. They intended to kill the poor, homeless man and they did just that. This is a hate crime, just as it would have been if the victim had been black, and the murderers white!

I am so sick of these kids getting away with stuff like this. I know that two of them have juvenille records. They shold both be given the MAX. This was uncalled for and senseless. Whether it is a homeless man or a millionaire, the life was taken. It is my belief that this should be classified as a hate crime. Had it been 4 whites one one black the NAACP and the ACLU would have been camped out on the steps of the courthouse.
