They're rallying the youth to get excited about the school year and giving to those in need.

From school supplies to uniforms, the members of Good Shepard Ministries of Lauderdale County are motivating these local students to push for success this school year.

"It's about God's work. And if we could make their burden a little lighter, that's what we wanted to do," Youth Leader Linda Hopson said.

And with three kids, Latoya Brown says the church's support really helped.

"I really ain't got no job and this helped and I think it's great," Meridian resident Latoya Brown said.

Most of the children of this church attend Meridian Public Schools and with the challenges the district faces, members say they wanted to equip these children spiritually and encourage them to be leaders on their campuses.

"As Christians, God has empowered us to be leaders," Youth Leader Daniel Boyd said.

And students also need some energy to go into school with a good attitude and a positive outlook on the school year.

The little ones went first, showing discipline and good listening skills during their step routine

And then the Mighty Warriors for Christ step group charged the crowd with their creative moves.

Another group of teens demonstrated through miming that they believe keeping God first in their life will keep them on the right track toward success.

"And it's all about keeping them up on top," Hopson said.
