Lamar School was among those getting the school year cranked up Monday morning.
Students came back to classes this year with a new head of school in place.
Shane Blanton said, as he prepared himself for this year, he was pleasantly surprised by the school's academics and quality teaching. He said he believes more good things are in store.
"I think you really want to get off to a good start and to get the school year rolling in a good direction. You know, preparing your seniors for graduation. We've done some new things with the curriculum of adding some writing components in, some logic and thinking, in particular in our middle school," said Blanton.
Blanton said his priority is making sure all students are academically prepared, from Pre-K to high school graduation.
