An arrest has been made in a drive-by shooting in July in Kemper County. The incident happened in the north Kemper County community of Preston on Bloomfield Road.
18-year-old Cortez Davis of Preston was charged. Officials say the arrest this week may lead to solving several other cases.
"Actually this stems from when some teenagers at the fairgrounds on about July 11th got into an altercation," said Kemper County Sheriff James Moore.
Moore said that altercation led the drive-by shooting, in which no one was hurt but the bullet lodged in a bedroom wall.
Investigators say the shooting was gang-related and may have ties to incidents at Kemper County High School last spring.
"I don't know if this is related directly to that, but the two gentlemen that lived on Bloomfield are students at Kemper County High and Cortez is not a student at this time," Moore said.
"We are right now doing an investigation and the outcome of that investigation will probably solve three or four other burglaries in that same area," said the sheriff. "This case right here will lead to other arrests."
