Authorities are investigating Forrest County's first slaying of the year after a woman's body was found burned in the woods near the Eatonville community.
A passerby discovered the body of a black woman just off French Haralson Road Sunday morning. She is believed to have been between the ages of 16 and 26.
Sheriff Billy McGee said the case has been ruled a homicide, but no arrests have been made.
Investigator Trey Rudder said the body was covered with severe burns and appeared to have been set on fire where it was found.
Forrest County Deputy Coroner Jonathan Nobles said the severity of the burns has made it difficult to identify the body.
