A brother and sister have been charged in Newton for allegedly trying to bribe the chief of police to drop a case. The arrest was made Tuesday around 11 a.m.
Newton Police Chief Harvey Curry said Eric Jones and Beverly Jones were out on bond for felony drug charges when the proposal was made to him last week.
Curry said he received a phone call as he was on his way out-of-town. He said Eric Jones repeatedly offered him $3,000 to drop the drug charges.
After that, Curry said he contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics to involve them in the investigation.
