Meridian Man Pleads to Two Counts of Capital Murder

A Meridian man has pleaded guilty in the deaths of two people in 2008.

Larry Jenkins, Jr., entered that guilty plea to two counts of capital murder in the deaths of Xavier Monroe and Preston Smith.

The two victims were found dead last year in Kemper County. The car they were in had been burned.

Jenkins will serve two life sentences for the crime. The plea deal helped him avoid the death penalty.

"The family members were given an opportunity to express their feelings," said assistant district attorney, Lee Ann Follett. "It was an emotional plea bargain, but we do feel like the state was served well in this circumstance. "

Investigators say the murders took place in Lauderdale County. The victims were then taken to Kemper County, where the car was burned with them in it.

Death for Jenkins would have been the easy option. For the rest of his life, he will sit there and suffer the memory or what he did to the ones he at one time called "friends". I understand the principle of an "eye for and eye", but killing him, still does not bring back our boys. Yes, we are still hurting, we are still upset..all which are natural. But I promise you, God will repay! Vengance belongs to him. And the things that will be done to this young man behind bars will make him summon death to overtake him.

I am so glad he is going jail. im glad he didnt get the death sentince so while he is sitting in there he can think about what him and his friends have done to my family and i hope all the real drug dealers and murders do as much to him as they can to make him feel as unwelcome as possible. and where are his friends? they should be in jail with him! none of this is going to bring those boys back but they made my family suffer and i hope they suffer so much that they want to see death!!!

What about the other people that were arrested with him, what will their punishment be. Two life sentences will not bring back those two boys. Mr. Jenkins should have gotten death, "an eye for an eye..."
