A new Christian-based film will soon be playing at theaters across the country, and in Meridian.
"The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" is being marketed in a unique way, using local churches to try to get it into theaters.
Scott Reed is involved in helping bring the movie to Meridian.
"Our church, the Evangel Temple, has sponsored the movie so we can bring it here," said Reed. "We're going to use it as an outreach tool to reach people for Christ."
Reed said he discovered the movie through an Internet search and showed it to his pastor at Evangel Temple, and they made the push to bring the movie to Meridian.
The story is about a 75-year-old man named of Jonathan Sperry. He befriends three 12-year-old boys. They're having problems with a bully. He uses really neat teaching lessons from the Bible about how to fend off this bully off and actually how to forgive him.
"We think this will be a great outreach tool for the community to have a true Christ-honoring film in the movie theaters," said Reed. "We know what we have in the movie theaters now. We just want to put something else in there that's a positive alternative to some of what's in there already."
It stars Gavin McLeod, a veteran TV and movie actor who starred as the captain on the "The Love Boat", and as Murray on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".
The movie will play in Meridian at Bonita Lakes Cinema, starting Sept. 18.
