One of the biggest contributors to the annual fund-raising campaign for The United Way got its efforts started Thursday.
Pacesetter, Mississippi Power, held its annual campaign kick-off with a luncheon.
One hundred percent of local MPC employees participate in the campaign.
"I get to see the need every day, from people who can't pay their bills, because they've lost their jobs, or their hours have been cut," said Latonya Johnson of Mississippi Power. "And we need to give back to those. We're fortunate and blessed enough to have our jobs, where we can help someone else. And I feel like if you help someone else, you'll be blessed yourself. "
The luncheon included several guest speakers talking about the importance of The United Way. The local organization has set a fund-raising goal this year of $800,000.
