The Mississippi Auditor's Office says a former employee of Jones County Junior College has been indicted for embezzlement.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering said a February 2009 investigation led to the charge against 39-year-old Tracy Laird, who was employed at the college from May 1999 until her termination in February. Officials say the embezzlement began in July 2007.
Pickering said the college reported accounting violations to his office. Laird was issued a demand for repayment this week in the amount of $109,407.96. More than $90,000 of the funds demanded are principal, and the remaining $18,870 represent interest, services performed by a contracted CPA firm and additional investigative costs.
Laird is scheduled to appear in Jones County Circuit Court Sept. 16 at 10 a.m.
