Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose said late Thursday afternoon that he plans to resign from the post he has held for almost 8 years. Dubose says he is resigning at the request of Mayor Cheri Barry, who took office in July.
Dubose told Newscenter 11, "I was disappointed, but I understand she is the appointing authority and it is her right to decide who is best and I wasn't the choice."
Newscenter 11 was not able to immediately reach members of the Barry administration to ask questions about the decision.
We'll have more on this story as it develops.
