Churches Build Playground Together

A group of churches is working together to help make a Meridian neighborhood, near Wesley House, a better place. The churches are
building a playground for kids.

"So far we have painted the outside buildings. We have installed a basketball goal, poured a basketball court, hung a vision fence and landscaped the area that we call the elementary section in the back," said Trey Long of First Baptist Church of Meridian.

They hope to make it much more, so the work continues.

"We were wanting to have a bigger vision and actually create a whole new Playground for Jesus next to the Wesley House with a full basketball court, a pavilion, a recreational area, and just a nice safe place for children in this community to come and play," Long said.

Of course, every project needs funding. Help from individuals and businesses is welcomed. Long says donations have already come from as far away as Pennsylvania and New York. A total of $45,000 is needed.

"We're doing that little by little," said Long. "And it's come a long way. We're getting really close, and we're just really excited about finishing this project."

Thanks to the churches who have joined together to provide a safe outlet for children to play. I wish all churces of all denominations would join together and assist in this effort. It is time we stop being selfish and really start putting children first.
