As Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose gets ready to leave his job, the FBI released numbers of how things have looked in the city during his last year at the helm.
The bureau's annual Uniform Crime Report found crime holding relatively steady from 2007 to 2008.
Violent crimes were down a bit, but property crimes were up. Dubose said he believes the city is making some progress.
"We saw a significant decrease in our burglaries. Our other property crimes like larceny and theft (we) saw a significant increase in other property crimes, like larceny and theft," said Dubose. "Our burglaries were down quite a bit, and our aggravated assaults and other violent crimes were down."
The FBI released its crime numbers for cities and towns across the nation late Monday.
