Mississippi Budget Process Starts

Mississippi lawmakers this week will begin the long process of deciding how to spend taxpayers' money next year.
It's a tough job, given the economic uncertainty for the year that begins July 1.
Officials say agencies won't get all the money they want.
House Speaker Billy McCoy says millions of federal stimulus dollars will disappear midway through the fiscal year, and that will put a pinch on spending.
The Joint Legislative Budget Committee meets Monday through Thursday in Jackson. Members expect to hear presentations for public education, Medicaid and other big programs.
If all goes as planned, the full House and Senate will finish the budget by early April.
