The national office of the American Red Cross is requesting help from local Red Cross chapters to help flood victims in Georgia.
The Key Chapter in Meridian is trying to get dozens of people to volunteer as case workers, and help assess the damage in Atlanta.
People there have homes that are under water or destroyed by recent heavy rain.
"The American Red Cross has people throughout the world, throughout the United States," said Key Chapter volunteer Wayne Long. "And when we have a major disaster, they're called in where they're needed and volunteers willingly go."
Long said the volunteers are needed as soon as possible. The Red Cross office telephone number is 601-485-5151.
