Meridian police say a sport utility vehicle that was stolen with the Meridian High School mascot uniform inside was recovered Sunday near downtown.

The 2001 tan Chevy Tahoe was taken from the Bonita Lakes Mall area Sept. 23. The costume was inside.

The Wildcat costume costs more than $1,000. It was returned Friday in time for the Meridian football game in Natchez.

Meridian Police Department Capt. James Sharpe said whoever took the SUV probably abandoned it because the theft had gotten lots of local media attention.
