A Laurel company has received a $5.5 million contract to provide fire suppression and safety services to the military.

The grant to International Fire & Safety Incorporated in Laurel was awarded by the Department of Defense.

Sue Bridges, president and chief executive officer of HC Services/IFS, tells the Hattiesburg American that the company hopes to know within the next 30 to 60 days whether it would be given additional work, which would require new workers.

The company produces fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems to businesses.
