The investiture service for new Mississippi State University president, Dr. Mark Keenum was held Friday in Starkville.
Students, faculty, and members of the community were able to watch the service via satellite at MSU Meridian.
Keenum promised to uphold academic excellence at the school. The Mississippi State alumnus is the school's 19th president.
MSU Meridian officials say that he's already doing well by them.
"He has been very proactive in Meridian," said MSU dean, Dr. Jack Tucci. "He was the one who helped up purchase the Newberry Building, and raise the $4.5 million we needed, and so it's very special to us. "
Keenum is a former chief of staff to Trent Lott. He was also Undersecretary of Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services under President George W. Bush.
