Telephone Pioneers Send Love to Troops

A local group spent Wednesday preparing to send a little bit of love to soldiers in Iraq.

Members of the Telephone Pioneers packed up shoe box care packages for soldiers of the 155th Brigade Special Troops Battalion of Meridian.

The shoe boxes included items collected in a recent drive, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, note pads, pens and pencils.

Organizers say it's their way of showing the troops how much they're appreciated.

"We're trying to show support for our troops that are overseas protecting us, just to let them know that we are here and we do support them," said Kyla Moore of the Telephone Pioneers.

The 155th left for Iraq earlier this year. The members will be back sometime next year.

My husband is also deployed with this unit. I want to say thank you to all of those who made these care packages possible. To us and our soldiers they are more than shoe boxes, they are boxes of love. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. LaTerran Lucus 155 FRG Co-Chair
