Drug Dog Remembered

A special member of the law enforcement community was remembered during a memorial service Thursday at the Lauderdale County Courthouse.

Sheriff's deputy, SGT Chris Swanner lost his canine partner, Nero, Oct. 9.
The two had worked together for about 2 and a half years.

"He was more of a family member than he was a partner," said Swanner. "I spent more time with him than my family. He has been missed quite a bit. Going back to work without him has been different. I was in a situation where I was wishing I had him with me."

Nero was a drug dog. Swanner said he was wonderful at what he did.

He was your partner and friend. He will be missed but he is patrolling the streets in heaven. I hope the Sheriff's department finds the funding to purchase you another. You will have another to be there for you in the future...God Bless k-9's and the job they do. He was a fellow officer and will be missed.
