Sanders Gets New Trial in Philadelphia

A Neshoba County jury is deliberating for a second time the fate of a man charged with murder.

Keith Sanders was convicted in 2003 in the death of 33-year-old Darryl Baxstrum.

Sanders was sentenced to life in prison, but that conviction was overturned by the Mississippi Supreme Court, and a new trial was ordered.

Baxstrum was found lying on a Philadelphia street, shot several times, in April 2003.

I knew Keith for a short period of time. He was shot in the head earlier in life... Duh people if you get shot in the head or hit your head the wrong way you will in up being mentally disturbed as well. The system has failed both Keith and the victim. He should have been charged with Manslaughter and released today!!! All the white folks on the jury are to blame along with his lawyer for not trying the case harder and producing more qualified witnesses. Shame on you all

Right. He wasn't insane when he stabbed and killed Orenthal Jones in Philadelphia in the early 90's. And I also heard he killed some people in Florida. If they let him off the hook for this, he will definitely do it again. This has to stop because there are people losing their lives at the hand of this man who claims to be insane.

I am very familiar with this case because I know both the victim and the accused. I remember the incident vividly. I think the system erred in letting Keith on the streets in the first place. Because if he had a brain injury and a mental illness, he should have never been on the streets. But, is that Daryl's fault? Did he have to pay with his life for someone else's mistake? Personally, I don't think Keith was insane when he killed Daryl because how can an insane person shot someone and then run them down and stand over them and keep shooting. That don't sound like someone who don't know what they are doing. According to the court records, he was taking medication and stopped taking them when he could no longer afford them. That should have been a red flag for those who were administering the drugs to him. I think alot of people failed Keith and in turn, failed Daryl who paid the ultimate sacrifice. It's just sad for both families to have to relive this nightmare over again.
