Schools Get Serious About Kids Cans

A canned food drive is benefiting the people served by Wesley House.

The Fifth Annual "Kids Cans" invites school children to collect canned food to be distributed to people in our community.

Popeye's owner, Faith Vaughn, said out of 36 schools in the area, 28 participated.

"With the additional kids we counted in this morning, 11,000 children participated bringing cans in. We've hit our mark of, our goal was 30,000 cans. We're over 41,000 cans, which is just super," said Vaughn.

Lamar Elementary collected the most cans, 4,303. And Community Christian Center, which has 34 students, collected 1808 cans. Both schools won $500-dollar prizes from Popeye's and Little Caesar's.
