The night before Veterans Day, a local group helped with the need to properly dispose of worn American flags.
Meridian's Knights of Columbus and the Boy Scouts of America held a ceremony to retire American flags.
Members of the Knights of Columbus said the need to dispose of flags with the proper respect and dignity has grown and they wanted to show the scouts how it is done.
"And of course that is one of the values that we teach in scouting, is the proper respect of the United States Flag and the care of it," said Frank Polizzi of the Knights of Columbus. "And we thought for the boys to witness a retirement would be a wonderful thing."
Over a hundred flags were retired at the ceremony Tuesday night.
