ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is returning to Mississippi to help a yet-unnamed family in the Hattiesburg area.
Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree said at a news conference Thursday that five families are under consideration as recipients of the building blitz.
Host Ty Pennington and his design team will arrive in the south Mississippi city Dec. 3 and surprise one of the families with a knock on the door.
The show will work with builder David Thompson of AAA Homes of MS to recruit and lead a team of volunteers to build a new home is less than a week.
“It’s a blessing and privilege to be asked to help a real hero in our community,” said builder David Thompson of AAA Homes of Mississippi. “The people of Hattiesburg are stepping up to help a family that needs a new home and the nation will have a chance to see what makes Hattiesburg such a special place to live.”
Thompson thanked Citizens National Bank for being a major sponsor and helping spread the word. Citizens National Bank will be airing commercials and making south Mississippi aware of the opportunity to be involved, from volunteering to donating and sponsoring events.
This will be Hattiesburg’s first National Association of Home Builders' Green Certified Home and it will be an all electric, Mississippi Power EarthCents qualified home.
In 2006, the show built a new home for Sabrena Jones and her three children in the central Mississippi city of Brandon.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" airs Sundays at 7 p.m. on WTOK-TV.
