Black Friday is the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. It generally features the biggest sales, but many of the sales will continue beyond Friday.
The stores opened extra early, and shoppers looking for a deal packed Meridian stores and the Bonita Lakes Mall before the sun even came up!
Why do they do that?
"Because we're crazy, and our children got us up to get out here!" said Donna Cook.
"That's right. My daughter was after something, and she got me up at three, 'come on mom!'" said Roxie Henson.
Cook and Henson were at the Bonita Lakes Mall before the crack of dawn looking for bargains.
The mall's general manager Renee Williams says things have gone well at the mall.
"The department stores opened at 4. All the small shops opened at 6, and we've had steady traffic and steady increases in traffic all morning long," Williams said.
Williams also says Black Friday 2009 is at least even with Black Friday 2008 here, and it may even be a little busier. She also says shoppers in the mall have been
"Even though there have been lines in most of the department stores and in a lot of the stores today, everyone has been really happy and in the Christmas spirit," she said.
If you didn't get out Friday, remember that Black Friday is just the kickoff. Many sales will continue at least through Christmas Eve.
