Manslaughter Trial Cut Short by Illness

The trial of former York, Ala., police chief David Rowry continued Wednesday in Sumter County Circuit Court.

But it adjourned around 1:45 p.m. because defense attorney Belinda Weldon got sick.

The prosecution is still presenting its case. Then the defense has its chance to try to persuade jurors.

Rowry is accused of manslaughter in the death of 51-year-old Joe Bell. The shooting happened inside Church's Chicken in York in September 2008.

Court resumes Thursday at 9 a.m. Officials say they hope to complete the case before the end of the week.
