Gov. Haley Barbour has ordered Mississippi flags lowered to half-staff Monday in honor of the more than 2,400 Americans killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

Mississippi flags on all state buildings and grounds will be flown at half-staff Monday from sunup to sundown.

Barbour says it is important to honor members of America's military forces who gave their lives in the defense of democracy.

So.... WHY EXACTLY IS THIS NOT DONE NATIONALLY?? December 7, 1941 is truly "a day that will live in infamy". It is one of the ONLY times another country has declared WAR on the United States and attacked our "homeland". Even more important than 9-11. We honor and commemorate every other little thing, but not this day. WHY? In a Nation with a "Secretaries Day", we allow December 7th to just pass by without much thought at all. It's a SAD society we have created for sure.
