The Mississippi State Department of Health announced Thursday that the 2009 swine flu injectable and nasal mist vaccines are available to the general public.
Both are free at all county health departments. Some private providers and pharmacies also have the swine flu vaccine available.
Interim State Health Officer Dr. Mary Currier encourages everyone to get their swine flu vaccine now that it is available.
“It’s the perfect time to get vaccinated for both types of influenza before everyone gets together for the holidays," said Currier. "We don’t know which type of flu we will see during regular flu season and we need to be prepared for both seasonal and swine flu.”
So far, 807,300 swine flu doses have been allocated for Mississippi schools, county health departments and private providers.
