Officials say a 9-year-old girl died in a house fire in south Jackson. Chief Fire Investigator Greg Travis told The Clarion-Ledger that firefighters responded to the call shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday.
Travis said two adults and the girl were inside at the time of the fire.
Hind County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said the girl was transported to Central Mississippi Medical Center, where she later died in the emergency room around 7 p.m.
Grisham-Stewart said it appears the girl died from smoke inhalation. Her name was not released.
Travis said it is not clear where the fire began or the cause.
