Times are tough this year for The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. But the U.S. Marines came to the rescue Wednesday.
Marines donated toys from the annual Toys for Tots program to The Salvation Army.
Marines have been collecting toys at stores across this area for weeks and donated 3,500 items.
"We do this, this shows a different aspect to the Marine Corps," said organizer, SGT Joseph Killian. "A lot of people think of the Marine Corps, and they think, they go and fight wars. This gives us an opportunity to reach out to the communities and to the United States and show them that we really do care about what's going on here at home."
The Marines plan to make more donations to programs for the needy across central and south Mississippi.
