The 4-laning of Highway 19 between Collinsville and Philadelphia is ahead of schedule.
That's according to Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall.
Hall said that rain has slowed progress, but the contractor is still getting the job done. He said two sections of the work are underway now, with one still to go.
"The truth is east central Mississippi got the lion's share of the stimulus money that came to Mississippi for highway projects," said Hall. "The new interchange there in Meridian, Highway 19, those are major projects that the funding came from the stimulus package. So east central Mississippi came out like a champ on, on that."
Hall said the current work on Highway 19 will be finished in 2010. The third and final phase is slated for completion in 2011.
