Retailers Hopeful for Good Christmas

Although parking lots are not exactly packed, retailers say, at times, consumers are packing stores and buying.

There's also a noticeable increase in traffic around shopping areas this week.

"I think our traffic for the weekend was about even, probably a little up from last year," said Bonita Lakes Mall manager Renee Williams.

Williams said the good news is that, while most retailers nationally have set goals to just basically try to break even this year, Bonita Lakes Mall's overall sales are up.

"We're probably looking at an estimate of an increase right now, and that was through last week, of probably 2% to 3%, somewhere in that range for the holiday season," said Williams.

Williams says the sales are not just up for the holidays but slightly for the year as a whole.

To keep up the momentum before ending the year, Williams says the mall is doing several things, like extending hours and offering special coupon books on its Web site.

"A lot of our retailers now are also offering their bounce back coupons," Williams said. "So if you make a purchase this week, you'll get an additional savings coupon or savings to spend after Christmas Day."

The extended mall hours are:
Monday - Wednesday
8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

People need to start using mobile coupons to save them money. I don't get why more people aren't going crazy about it. I'm personally using RivePoint, but there are lots out there. Check out RivePoint: They put Macy's and big name restaurants on their website and allow you to put the coupons on your cell phone.
