The former fire chief of Newton, who stepped down about two weeks ago, is in the hospital.

Sunday night, Buster Bounds was taken to a Meridian hospital and then transported to University Medical Center in Jackson after complaining of blurred vision.

Newton Mayor David Carr said Bounds suffered a stroke and is still numb on his right side. The mayor said Bounds is out of ICU and is resting comfortably.
