Fireworks are exciting! Fireworks are fun! And fireworks can also be very dangerous. That's why Greg Chatham, the owner and operator of Greg's Fireworks in Meridian, says to look closely at all directions on each and every firework.
"The main thing is to read and follow all of the labels. Every firework we sell has got a warning label on it. I highly reccommend that everyone read and follow those instructions." says Chatham.
New Year's is quickly approaching which means families and friends will be getting together for parties and gatherings. Part of that may mean firework displays. Everyone should be cautious, especially children.
"Use under only close adult supervision," says Chatham.
Chatham knows the joy fireworks can bring to families. He just wants parents to keep a close eye on their children when fireworks are around.
"You know fireworks are very fun, very popular this time of year. Just be careful. The main thing like I said, watch your children. You can have a lot of fun with your kids with fireworks but be careful. Don't let them just go out and play. You need to be with them." says Chatham.
And when setting off those fireworks, there are certain cautions you should be aware of.
"Something you need to look for is anything overhead: powerlines, under trees, you need to make sure you have a clear area."
Chatham says it's also a good idea to have a water source handy.
"A bucket of water, hose, so on. And like I said just always be careful," suggested Chatham.
And that's what Chatham wants to emphasize: safety. He says it really boils down to one simple step.
"And it again that goes back to read and follow the instructions. If people would just be careful they are a lot of fun."
