The Holmes County Sheriff's Department is looking into the death of a jail inmate as a possible homicide.
Sheriff Willie March said Thursday that inmate Kelvin R. Hollimon was in a large holding cell at the Holmes County Jail on Tuesday evening when inmates alerted guards that he was hurt. Hollimon was found lying on the floor of the cell. He later died at a Jackson hospital.
March said Thursday that an autopsy is pending, but officials have tentatively labeled the cause of death as blunt trauma to the head. There were several inmates in the cell with Hollimon. March said investigators have a possible suspect but no charges have been filed, according to a story in The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson.
