After almost 16 years in office, Sumter County Sheriff Johnny Hatter is not seeking reelection this year.
After 29 years of working with law enforcement, Sheriff Johnny Hatter says, financially, he will benefit more by retiring now.
The 59-year-old has served four terms as sheriff of Sumter County. Prior to that he worked as an officer with the Livingston Police Department and a deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Hatter's current term will end next January. At this time there is no word on who might seek the position.
