A local alliance honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Candlelight March and Memorial Service were held to commemorate and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. Event organizers say they hold these services to remember what Dr. King stood for. They say they want to put MLK's message into practice.

"The purpose of the march is to promote unity and fellowship amongst the Meridian and Lauderdale County. And to let us know that what Dr. King stood for still stands today that we
still promote equality of all men and women and love and fellowship for everyone," says Reverend Ecclesiastes Goodwie

The Candlelight March started at 6 p.m. at the corner of 16th Street and 31st Avenue. After the march a celebration service was held at First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian.
