Members of 248th Volunteer for Duty in Haiti

Five airmen from Meridian's 248th Air Traffic Control Squadron have been deployed to Haiti.

Col. Brad Crawford said the five volunteered for the duty in support of earthquake relief efforts.

The 248th will relieve military air traffic control teams operating at the Port-au-Prince International Airport. The deployment could be up to six months.

Specialists from units in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and South Carolina are also part of the relief deployment.

The Mississippi National Guard says the 172nd Airlift Wing in Flowood continues flying missions to Haiti, delivering life sustaining supplies for the earthquake relief efforts. They also routinely transport refugees to a refugee center in Orlando, Fla., on their return flights.
