Phillip Martin Hospitalized

Former Choctaw Indian Chief Phillip Martin was hospitalized Monday.

Family members confirmed to Newscenter 11 that he was hospitalized at Saint Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, but they would not say anything about his condition.

It's the second time in the last several months Martin has been in the hospital.

Martin served as chief of the Mississippi Choctaw from 1975 until 2007, when he was defeated by the current head of the tribe, Miko Beasley Denson.

My prayers and thoughts are with the family. He was a wonderful Chief and in my eyes the only Chief! He has done many wonderful things for the tribe only for Beasley Denson to come in and ruin it all!
