Meridian High School's ninth grade Friday made a donation to Haiti relief.
The school presented the money to executive director Susan Wehr of the American Red Cross Key Chapter.
Administrator Victor Hubbard said the students came up with the idea on their own.
"It says one thing to me. That the students of Meridian High 9th grade, the faculty and staff of Meridian High 9th grade, have a genuine heart," said Hubbard. "They care about people. And most importantly they care enough to help those that are in need of help."
Hubbard said Thursday at 4 p.m., the amount raised stood at $383. But by 11 a.m. Friday, it had reached $1,000.
