Girls of all ages had the chance to compete in a pageant Saturday afternoon.
The Miss Southern Belle Pageant was held at Meridian's Quality Inn.
Sharon Howard is the Director of the Miss Southern Belle Pageant. She used to compete in pageants and her daughter did as well. They both found that pageants helped them with their self confidence.
"For us it builds confidence, self-esteem, it helps you do public speaking because when you're in a pageant you always have an onstage question and you have to think on the spur of the moment when that question pops up. A lot of times your mind goes blank, but you have to pursue through that," explains Howard.
Roughly twenty girls competed in the pageant in various age groups.
